At the end of the day, do you find yourself wondering just where the time went? RescueTime just might be what you are looking for. Offering ridiculously easy time management, RescueTime runs unobtrusively (on your PC or Mac) capturing to the second how you are spending your computer time. Categorize or tag sites or applications to get an aggregated display with stats and graphs, and all of the bells and whistles.
I’ve been running this for about a month now and am sometimes shocked at the results I see. They are still working on just what you can do with all of this data, but for now it does help to see visually if you are really staying on task. RescueTime is still in private beta but things are coming along nicely. Sign up for the beta here or I do have a couple of invites to share with the first to respond in the comments.

Well that is pretty cool? What if you have two applications open though?
Mike - It only tracks the application that has focus. The assumption being that is what you are directly working on.

That sounds pretty cool, but I’m a little intimidated to look at how I really spend my time. Amazing app. Nothing is as telling on how to become more efficient than actually tracking your work history. The cool thing is the auto-reporting, dirt honest results. Yeah, send me an invite if you have an extra to spare.

If you have any invites left
Heh– I had the same reaction when I was first able to see my data (”I spent my day doing WHAT?”). Thanks for taking RescueTime for a spin, Scott!
I’m still intimidated by what I may find. Guess I should give it a try.
Thanks for the visit Tony.
As I gather more data, it just gets more and more interesting. I am eager to see how things are progressing with the goal setting and tracking.
I still plan on doing a full write up of Rescue Time over on mythermos.com
