WordPress 2.3 Release is Imminent

The release of WordPress 2.3 is most likely going to be launched on Monday. If you are like too many folks, this provides you a good reason to perform a much neglected back-up of your current install. Check out Preparing for 2.3 on the WordPress blog and be sure to read through the instructions. Upgrading also provides a good opportunity to drop plug-ins that under perform for your needs and to reconfigure to maximize the features for your your site goals.

Thanks Phil - I have been reading up on the new version and am toying with the idea of giving WordPress a shot for my new (soon to be announced) project. I have always had such good luck with Serendipity though.

Scott, There are a slew of great apps out there for sure. I’ve not looked into Serendipity, but if it works for you and you know the app, it may be the way to go. The longer I travel down the development road, the more I’m convinced in the strength in numbers when it comes to the open source community. That to me is one of the most compelling arguments for WordPress. If you do choose the WP route, you’ll of course have a friend who is quick to lend a hand with a backlog of experience. :)

Thanks for the heads up Phil.

Scott, I was looking at both Drupal and Joomla for my “soon to be resurrected after being abandoned before it was announced” project. Drupal is pretty sweet.

Seems like both of you are doing Ruby on Rails, maybe you could do some project together.

Mike, I have used Drupal for a number of clients and it is my large scale CMS of choice. I find it amazingly powerful and flexible. I tend to dismiss it for a blog or simple site but it certainly can handle this - definitely something to think about some more.

My Rails experience at this point consists of 2 days of watching folks explain code. While I think I picked it up pretty well, I’m not ready to throw my hat into the Rails ring yet.. at least give me a couple of days to master it :)
