CamStudio Records Desktop Nicely

CamStudio

After having experimented with Jing for recording video of the desktop, I’ve come back to CamStudio. While Jing has some nice features including capturing still images I find CamStudio to capture higher resolution video and is a little more flexible. Jing has its strengths as well which I outline in a previous review on thoughtsparks.net. CamStudio’s interface is not as slick, but for serious video capture of desktop and voice recordings, it is seems to produce a higher quality with the option to save as .avi or .swf formats. Being opensource the price is certainly right.

Masterful Media Campaign for Ruby on Rails

I am not (yet) a Ruby on Rails developer, but for those who have yet to hear about Rails, it is a wildly popular open source platform for rapid web development. As Scott indicated in the previous post entitle “Learn Ruby on Rails with PeepCode Screencasts“, there are excellent resources available to ramp-up quickly on the platform. The folks at railsenvy.com have launched a media campaign that is just masterfully executed and very humorous even for those loosely connected-in with the developer environment. Enjoy.

Great Site for Web Content Photos

The number of photo sites grow by the day. One issue for reusing photos for web content is following fair use rights. The rights vary depending on the site and the photographer. Sometimes obtaining and understanding those rights becomes a hassle. One location I return to again and again for web photos is www.sxc.hu. The usage rights are stipulated very clearly for each photo and the quality of images tend to be sharp and very useful for a whole range of topics.

Listening Away in Radio Margaritaville

If you are a closet Parrot Head such as myself and have yet to stumble across Radio Margaritaville, you are in for a treat. I’ve been enjoying this trip down beach bum lane for a good while now. The format for this online station includes some great concerts and album replays of Jimmy Buffett. In addition, you will hear the likes of Paul Simon, Bob Marley, James Taylor and many other greats. I cut my guitar playing teeth on Jimmy’s music and enjoy kicking back to some great tunes reaching back several decades. Refresh yourself with a nice cool glass of Jimmy’s music, just remember to sip it slowly.
